Stay social all summer

While Noreen appreciated the support she received during her summer respite stay at Amica, her husband, Robert, was grateful for the in-house entertainment. “He liked the activities and met people he enjoyed spending time with,” remembers Noreen. “I couldn’t wait to get well enough that I could get involved, too!“ When she was mobile again, the couple fell in love with the lifestyle so much that they moved in permanently.

One of the best things about summer is getting out to enjoy favourite pastimes like picnics, barbecues and festivals. For older adults living alone, however, it can be challenging to nurture a summer social life if you’re not overly mobile, aren’t comfortable driving, or you find it hard to muster the energy after looking after meals, cleaning and the demands of running a household.

That’s why seniors like Noreen and Robert appreciate having those arrangements made for them. You might say moving to Amica is a bit like gaining a social convener: each community’s staff organize daily activities that offering residents numerous opportunities to stay active physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. All seniors have to do is show up! Even then, showing up is a choice—all events and activities are purely optional.

What kinds of activities are on the calendar this season? Anything that makes it feel like summer. Our residents will be enjoying outings for ice cream, cruise nights with classic cars, bus trips to local beaches and boardwalks, strolls around parks and conservation areas or flying kites and enjoying picnics. Residents enjoy their routines but they also love something special, so we plan afternoon tea parties, wine tastings, barbecues on the patio and summer fashion shows.

How can you get a taste of summer in senior living?

#1 Call your nearest community

Our residences are always hosting public events and you’re invited—simply call an Amica community near you. While you’re at the event, you can also speak to residents about their experiences, ask questions of the staff and have a look around to see if a first-class, all-inclusive lifestyle appeals to you.

#2 Book a summer trial stay

Think of it like a summer staycation where you get to see if senior living is for you. You’ll stay in a furnished private suite, sit down to meals prepared by a chef and meet people in the dining room and at any activities in which you choose too participate. It’s a great chance for you to meet the warm and caring professionals who provide the Amica difference, offering support if and when you may need it.

#3 Book a respite stay

A temporary stay is idea if you need extra care and support for a while as you recover from illness or injury. You’ll enjoy all your meals, cleaning services and activities, combined with support personalized to your wishes by Amica staff.
